Don't Trash Nevada

Show Your Colors

Volunteers Lee Hendricks and Jaroslaw Kaczmarzyk display the very cool "Don't Trash Nevada" trash bag on the summit of 11,060 ft Griffith Peak in the Mt Charleston Wilderness. Please get involved in the Mt Charleston Sweep the Peak campagin going on in September or better yet sweep the Wilderness all year round. The Spring Mountains need our help so if you see that water bottle laying on the trail or piece of trash please pick it up and stow it away. The quality of the Wilderness we want to enjoy, or pass on to future generations is up to us...Don't Trash Nevada.

Drivin' Thru

3 Egg McMuffins & some oats...please
I was waiting at our carpool spot before Friday's monitoring hike to the Mt. Charleston Wilderness at local McDonald's and all of a sudden this horse drawn wagon pulls up and goes into the drive thru...I had to capture the image. Everyone seemed to enjoy it; I just hope the guy who cleans the parking lot has a sense of humor.

The Wilderness Cube

WOW! I have a window and an awesome view of the parking lot. Actually it's a lot cooler than the glorifed storage room I had at my last job...I'm still adjusting to cube living, air cards, and talking really quiet in the phone...Shhhhh
..

Trail Work

Trail Work is Hard Work
I went out to the La Madre Wilderness in the Spring Mountains today and it was my privilege to visit this trail crew. What a great group of guys. They are out there working everyday in hot weather working hard in order to make a diference. They're building a trail that will last long after we are long gone which will be a lasting testament to their hard work and commitment to the outdoors...Really Good Stuff!

Kyle Canyon, Mt Charleston

Kyle Canyon...

OK I don't know the name of this thing yet , but it rocks. As a matter of fact, all of Mt. Charleston rocks! If this place was east of the Mississippi it would be a National Park...Easterners eat you heart out.

A view from the ridge

Kyle Canyon from the North Loop Trail

I shot this photo high on the ridge over looking down the valley below. It was hard to believe that I was so close to the largest city in Nevada, but yet we were hiking in a beautiful rich Wilderness...Good Stuff!

Got Solitude?

Traffic Jam at Cathedral Rock. I love hiking through the aspens on the Cathedral Rock Trail but it seemed a bit more like I-95. I've decide from now on to keep to the Wilderness and spread out a little and keep off the tourist trails on the weekends...stop and go with hiking boots...well at least the folks are friendly.

Cave Spring, Mt Charleston Wilderness

The cool refreshing water of Cave Spring

The Narrows at Fletcher Canyon.
What a great hike (and easy too) if you need to cool off, bask in the shade of some green trees with nice views and you feel like hiking in a slot canyon then Fetcher Canyon
is where you want to be.
